Successful project Straddle Carrier modification

  • Mar 25, 2013

Project manager Bozo Lipic about the modification of straddle carriers:

“Challenging project, with a high standard and promptly completed”

The modification of twelve straddle carriers at the Port of Rotterdam was estimated to take eleven weeks. The Liftcom team under the leadership of project manager Bozo Lipic managed to deliver the carriers ready for operation in only nine weeks. Lipic concludes: “A matter of good management.” And more precisely: “Thanks to a close collaboration with the patron, we were able to take on several carriers simultaneously with the proper professional experts.” Key element of the project: Providing openings in the portal construction surrounding the control cabin for the operator's safety and functional comfort. It was a complex project, successfully realized within tight technological and operational parameters. “All activities were carried out with the highest standard, strictly according to the client's regulations and procedures,” says Bozo Lipic. “This is logical: We are at home in the world of harbors and cranes. This means that you work according to the rules, respecting the planning while delivering perfect work.”

Making the Future in a Partnership

On Thursday, December 13th, 2012, the cosy beach pavilion “Stormvogel” in Oostvoorne started to fill up with people. Liftcom had organized a traditional barbecue on this characteristic location on the Maasvlakte near Rotterdam. The purpose: To accentuate the pleasant collaboration with our customer relationships in a relaxed environment, looking back a little and looking forward. Liftcom is convinced that partnership makes the future. The partnership comprises efficient and knowledgeable technological service and, now and then, relaxation with a snack and a drink. In our opinion, “Stormvogel” is the ideal location combining these aspects. The feeling is shared by many: It was busier than ever and a relaxed meeting point for all disciplines keeping the harbor crane in motion. A special surprise had been prepared for three guests: They returned home as the winner of the on-line quiz with a well-deserved iPad.

“Always stand-by, whenever the customer needs us”

  • Oct 11, 2012

“Starting with the carriage up to the pylons, we inspect every piece using a crane-specific maintenance schedule. According to the agreed maintenance schedule and taking into account the customer’s planning we provide detailed reporting. Common repairs – such as worn brake pads – we take care of directly and if further action is required we will get in touch with the customer immediately”, Ron Griffioen tells us. As foreman of Preventive Maintenance (PM) he is not only in charge of two maintenance teams, but he is the on-site Liftcom point-of-contact for the customer. When an urgent repair requires a specialized Liftcom CM-team, Ron Griffioen can deploy a qualified team quickly. The highest priority is always safety - with the customer’s business interests a close second. “We’re always on stand-by for whenever the customer needs us. Twenty-four-seven”.

Innovation in Port Lighting

Conditions at sea ports are unforgiving. Corrosive saltwater and large temperature variances are a given. In addition, lighting fixtures on port cranes can be subject to constant vibration. Lighting performance is important both for safety and productivity. New LED technology promises to virtually eliminate maintenance costs, reduce power consumption, and dramatically extend the life of the light source. Taking advantage of these benefits requires a fixture designed to perform year after year in these harsh conditions. With both traditional and LED light sources, Phoenix builds fixtures to meet all of these challenges.
